April 2020: Guy Mansfield co-authored a paper under the auspices of the Washington State Planning Unit that was recently published in the Journal of Search and Rescue.

The Washington State SAR Planning Unit was formed in 2018 to provide search planning resources to regional commands during extended or complex missions. One of the challenges we face is that, throughout the state, counties have different search planning approaches and data collection practices. We needed to find a way to adapt and apply formal search planning methods to the variety of jurisdictions that we might serve. This paper was our first attempt at defining for us “A Pragmatic Approach to Applied Search Theory”. Guy presented this paper to the 2018 International Syrotuck Search Theory Symposium, in Reykjavik, Iceland.
