We are so thankful to be able to use our historically trained detection K9s to support the Yakama Nation Cultural Resources Management Program (under the direction of Jon Shellenberger) in locating unmarked Native American graves of children at Fort Simcoe, the site of the very first reservation boarding school in the United States. This is a very nice article written by Tammy Ayer who is dedicated to helping document and share what happened to the Native American children that were forcibly taken from their parents and subjected to all kinds of abuse. We just completed Phase Two with our detection dogs and hope to return for Phase 3 in the Spring when the ground has thawed and temperatures are most conducive to our search. For us this is labor of love and we are grateful to be able to make a difference in a small way as this very dark chapter in American history is shared.
