Suzanne is delighted to have received a Spike Foundation Scholarship to attend a Disaster Response for Wilderness Handlers Workshop. This training will be held at the FEMA California Task Force 3 Menlo Park Facility in California January 8 and 9, 2022. The program is 100% funded by donors, and focused on both live find and human remains detection K9 teams.
The goal of Spike’s School – SAR Edition program is to educate and improve communication between handlers and K9s through top notch training from exceptional and recognized trainers across the country. The training will include concrete rubble searches, wood rubble searches, building searches, K9 agility for USAR, Lifting/Rappelling, K9 First Aid, creating the K9 reward event and more.
Spike’s K9 Fund is teaming up with the Center for Forensic Training and Education (CFTE) to provide this special opportunity. Instructors include:
- James Hatch, the Founder of Spike’s K Fund and Naval Special Warfare K9 Handler
- Michael Ellis, an internationally renowned K9 trainer
- Evan Nolte, US Army Special Operation Medical Specialist
- Deana Hudgins, Tim Houweling and other USAR Handlers
