Keb Catches the First Pitch!

On Monday April 3, 2023 at the Seattle Mariners’ home game with Los Angeles Angels, 13-year-old K9 “Keb”, the 2022 American Humane Search and Rescue Hero Dog, caught the ceremonial first pitch of the game! Keb appeared at the home plate (and on the Big Screen), enjoyed some quality time with the Mariner Moose, and was honored during the Mariners’ “Bark at the Park” program.

Our exciting evening began at the exclusive “Third Base Entry” at T-Mobile Park, where we were met by representatives of the Seattle Mariners, and led into the VIP lobby.

We were then escorted through secret tunnels to our special guest waiting room, where Keb had a chance to meet the Mariner Moose in the hallway!

At 6:30PM sharp, we were then all escorted out onto the ballfield through another secret tunnel. We waited just behind the home plate while Keb (and over 20,000 fans) stood at attention for the national anthem.

Then, at 6:40PM, Keb’s pictures began to appear on the big screen and as the announcer told the crowd about Keb’s career as a search and rescue K9 and how Keb’s stories were told in our book, Suzanne, Keb and Guy jogged out onto the field.

After briefly showing Keb the ball to get her attention, Guy then ran out to the pitcher’s mound (well, halfway to the mound) turned around, and hurled (well, soft-lobbed) the ball toward Keb. Keb sprinted forward, and grabbed the ball as it rolled by, as the crowd cheered with applause!

A successful ceremonial first pitch!
